How to Get the Cookie Death Message in Death Knell
What Triggers It
One of the mod's headline messages involves a killer forcing the victim to eat too many cookies. This is a *killer-attributed* message, meaning a second entity must be credited with your death — you cannot get it by simply eating cookies until you die on your own. The mod hooks the death event and swaps in its custom line when the conditions match.
Setting It Up
1. Create or load a world where you can safely die, ideally with keepInventory on.
2. Bring in a second player, or spawn a mob that can deal damage and give it a name tag so the message reads clearly.
3. Let that entity land the killing blow while cookies are involved in the situation the mod checks for.
4. Watch the chat output — the custom line replaces the vanilla death message.
If It Will Not Appear
Custom death messages only override vanilla ones when the mod's condition is actually satisfied. If you are seeing the normal message instead, the killer was not credited, the damage source was wrong, or another mod is overwriting death messages. Test in a clean instance with only Death Knell loaded to confirm the message works before adding other mods back. Because the mod is still in development, some messages may be added or adjusted in later updates, so re-test after updating.
