How to Disable or Reduce Death Knell Messages

Check for Config Options First

Before editing anything else, look for a config file for Death Knell in your instance's config folder. Mods that add cosmetic content like death messages frequently expose toggles there — options may include enabling or disabling the mod's messages entirely, or limiting them to specific categories. Open the file with a plain text editor, change the relevant value, and restart the game so it reloads.

If There Is No Toggle

If the config does not offer a switch, you have a few practical options:

  • Remove the mod from the instance if you no longer want its messages at all. Nothing else depends on it, since it only changes death text.
  • Keep it installed but accept the messages; they only appear on death, so they will not clutter normal play.
  • Use a separate instance for testing the messages and keep your main world clean.

Server vs Client

On a multiplayer server, the death message is generated by the server. Disabling or removing the mod on your client alone will not stop other players from seeing the custom lines, and it will not stop you from seeing them either. To change messages server-wide, the change must be made on the server's config or mod list. Always back up your config file before editing it so you can restore the defaults if something breaks.
