Where Death Backup Mod Stores Your Inventory Saves and How to Manage Them

Where the Files Live

The mod writes your inventory snapshot into a file inside the world folder before your items drop on death. This is why the saves survive quitting and reloading — they are part of the world's data, not temporary memory.

Practical Implications

Understanding the storage location helps you in a few situations:

  • Backups: If you back up your world folder, you are also backing up your death saves. Copying the world preserves your ability to recover inventories later.
  • Moving worlds: Because saves are tied to the world folder, moving or copying a world carries its death history with it.
  • Sharing: If you send someone your world folder, the saved inventories go along with it.

Managing Your Saves

1. Use /deathbackup list to see what is stored and which index maps to which death.

2. Use /deathbackup load <index> to pull a specific saved inventory back.

3. If you want to keep the world tidy, you can remove old save files from the world folder directly, but do this only when you are certain you no longer need those inventories — deleting a file removes that death from the list permanently.

Always make a copy of the world folder before manually deleting anything, so a mistake is reversible.
