Death Backup Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I get my stuff back after dying with this mod?
Make sure cheats are enabled, then run /deathbackup list to see your saved deaths and /deathbackup load to restore the inventory you want. The load command puts the saved items back into your inventory.
Why doesn't /deathbackup work on my server?
The commands require cheats or operator permissions, so on a server you need to be opped or have the command permission granted. If cheats are off in a singleplayer world, open it to LAN with cheats enabled or edit the world settings.
Does this mod save my inventory automatically when I die?
Yes, the mod writes your inventory to a save file in the world folder at the moment of death, before your items drop or disappear. You don't need to enable anything for the saving to happen.
What is the index in /deathbackup load ?
The index is the number shown next to each entry in the /deathbackup list output. Use that same number in the load command to pick which saved inventory you want back.
Can I load an older death instead of my most recent one?
Yes. Run /deathbackup list, find the entry for the death you want, and use its index with /deathbackup load. This lets you skip a recent death and recover an earlier inventory.
Where are my saved inventories stored?
They're saved as files inside your world folder, alongside the rest of the world data. You can back them up or delete them manually from there if you want to manage them outside the game.
Will loading a saved inventory delete the items I'm currently carrying?
Loading replaces your current inventory contents with the saved ones, so anything you're holding at that moment can be overwritten. Store or move important current items somewhere safe before loading an old save.
Does the mod work in multiplayer or on a server?
It works on servers as long as the mod is installed server-side and you have permission to run the commands. Inventory saves are tied to the world folder on the server, not your client.
Does Death Backup Mod conflict with other inventory or grave mods?
It generally coexists with grave and corpse mods because it saves a copy rather than changing where your items drop. If another mod also restores inventories, avoid loading a backup on top of an already-restored inventory to prevent duplicates.
Does this mod hurt performance or cause lag?
The mod only writes a file at the moment you die, so it has no ongoing performance impact during normal play. Any lag you see is almost certainly from something else.
