How to Recover Your Inventory After Dying in Minecraft with Death Backup Mod

Finding Your Saved Death

When you die, the mod automatically writes a snapshot of your inventory to a file inside your world folder before the items drop. To get them back, you first need to know which save corresponds to the death you want to undo.

1. Make sure cheats are enabled for the world (the commands are cheat-gated).

2. Open chat and run /deathbackup list.

3. Read the list carefully — each entry is a death, shown with an index number and details that help you identify it (such as the time or the items involved).

4. Note the index of the death whose inventory you want back.

Loading the Inventory

Once you know the index:

1. Run /deathbackup load <index>, replacing <index> with the number from the list.

2. The mod restores the saved inventory contents to you.

3. Verify your hotbar and main inventory — if something looks wrong, you can load a different index instead, since each death is stored separately.

Because every death creates its own save file, you are not limited to the most recent death. You can scroll back through the list and recover an older inventory if a newer one is not the one you wanted. Load before you pick up any dropped items if you want a clean comparison.
