DarkMenu Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I get the DarkMenu theme to actually show up?
The mod applies its RPG theme to the main menu automatically once it's loaded, so you don't need to enable anything in-game. If you still see the vanilla menu, check that the mod is actually loading in your mod loader's mod list and that no resource pack is overriding the menu textures.
Does DarkMenu change anything besides the main menu?
It also restyles the options screens and the button text to match the RPG look, and it replaces the death screen with a Dark Souls-inspired one. In-game HUD, inventory, and world content are left alone.
How do I change the DarkMenu background to my own image?
You replace the mod's background texture with your own image, keeping the same file name, resolution, and format the mod expects. If the image doesn't appear, the usual cause is a mismatched file name or an unsupported format.
Can I turn off the Dark Souls death screen but keep the menu theme?
The menu theme and the death screen are separate parts of the mod, so you can configure or disable the death screen without losing the main menu overhaul. Check the mod's config file for the death screen toggle.
Why is my death screen showing the wrong text or a broken layout?
This usually happens when another mod or resource pack also modifies the death screen and the two conflict. Removing or reordering the conflicting pack, or disabling the other mod's death screen feature, restores the intended look.
My DarkMenu buttons are unreadable or the text looks wrong — how do I fix it?
Unreadable buttons are almost always caused by a resource pack or another UI mod overriding the button textures or font. Disable the conflicting pack or mod, or make sure DarkMenu loads after it, and the RPG button text should render correctly.
Does DarkMenu work with other mods?
It works alongside most mods, but anything that also redraws the main menu, options screen, or death screen can conflict with it. If you see overlapping or missing elements, that's the sign of a menu-related conflict rather than a crash.
Will DarkMenu cause lag or lower my FPS?
No — it only changes menu and death screen visuals, which aren't rendered during normal gameplay, so it has no meaningful impact on in-game performance. Any slowdown you notice is coming from something else.
Can I use DarkMenu on a server, or is it client-side only?
It's a visual mod, so it only affects what you see on your own client and doesn't need to be installed on the server. Other players won't see your menu theme or death screen.
I installed DarkMenu but the menu still looks vanilla — what's wrong?
The most common causes are the mod not actually loading, a resource pack overriding the menu textures, or another menu mod taking priority. Confirm DarkMenu is in your loaded mods list, then remove or reorder conflicting packs and mods.
