How to Use /trigger darkdeath Safely on a Multiplayer Server
Check the Rules First
On multiplayer servers, self-killing is usually allowed, but some servers treat command abuse or death-looping as a punishable exploit. Confirm with staff or read the server rules before relying on it.
Confirm the Gamerule
Ask whether keepInventory is enabled. If it is, /trigger darkdeath costs you nothing but a respawn trip. If it is not, you lose your inventory and XP at the death location.
Practical Steps
1. Warn nearby players in chat so they are not confused by your sudden death.
2. Note your coordinates.
3. Type /trigger darkdeath and press Enter.
4. Respawn and return for your drops.
Team Situations
- If a teammate can reach your body, they can hold your items until you return.
- In PvP or raid scenarios, dying on purpose may hand the enemy your gear. Avoid using the command near hostile players.
- In co-op puzzle maps, coordinate with your group so nobody is left mid-task.
When Not to Use It
Do not use it to bypass server protections, escape punishment, or grief others. Use it only for genuine stuck states, glitches, or unavoidable lethal effects.
