How to Recover Your Items After Using /trigger darkdeath

What Happens to Your Stuff

When /trigger darkdeath kills you, your entire inventory and your experience are dropped at the exact spot where you died. Nothing is deleted, but nothing follows you to your spawn point either. Recovering your gear is a separate trip.

Before You Die

1. Press F3 (or open your coordinates display) and write down your X, Y, Z.

2. If you have a moment, move to solid ground rather than lava, cactus, or the Void.

3. Screenshot the coordinates if you cannot write them down.

The Recovery Run

1. Respawn and gear up with cheap armor, a weapon, and food.

2. Travel to the recorded coordinates.

3. Collect your dropped items before they despawn. Items despawn after a fixed timer, so do not wander.

4. If the area is dangerous, clear mobs first, then loot.

Reducing Future Losses

  • Keep a spare set of tools and armor at your base.
  • Store valuables in an ender chest before risky exploration.
  • On a server, ask whether keepInventory is on; if it is, your items stay with you and recovery is unnecessary.
  • Use the command only as a last resort when no safer escape exists.
