Cycle Paintings Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I change a painting's image without breaking it?
Hold a painting item in your hand and right-click the placed painting you want to change. The painting's image will switch to another motive of the same size, and the painting itself stays in place.
How do I cycle backwards through painting motives?
Sneak while right-clicking a placed painting with a painting item in hand. This steps backward through the available motives instead of forward.
Do I need to hold a painting item to cycle the image?
Yes, you must be holding a painting in your hand when you right-click the placed painting. The held painting acts as the trigger for the cycle.
Can I cycle a painting to a different size?
No, cycling only switches between paintings of the same size. The new motive must match the dimensions of the placed painting.
How do I stop certain paintings from showing up when cycling?
Use the mod's config to exclude specific paintings from the cycle. Add the painting's resource location to the exclusion list, such as via ignorePaintingsInCycleResourceLocation, so it is skipped.
How do I find a painting's resource location for the config?
Enable showRegisteredPaintingsDebug in the config to print all registered paintings and their resource locations to the console. Use those exact resource locations when adding entries to your exclusion list.
Why isn't my painting changing when I right-click it?
Make sure you are holding a painting item in your hand and that you are right-clicking the placed painting itself. If the held painting is a different size than the placed one, or if all matching motives are excluded in the config, nothing will change.
Does cycling paintings work in multiplayer servers?
It works wherever the mod is installed and allowed by the server. On a server, the mod typically needs to be present on the server side for the change to register properly for all players.
Will cycling paintings break or drop the painting?
No, the whole point of the mod is to change the image without destroying the painting. The painting stays placed and simply swaps its motive.
Does this mod affect performance or cause lag?
Cycling paintings is a lightweight action that only swaps the motive on an existing painting, so it should not cause noticeable lag. The debug option that logs registered paintings is mainly for setup and can be turned off afterward.
