Tuning Speaking Animation Sensitivity So Your Model Isn't Stuck Open

Why the animation looks wrong

Because the compat mod drives your animation from raw microphone volume, a badly scaled animation will either barely twitch or sit wide open the whole time. The fix is almost always in the animation curve inside Customizable Player Models, not in the compat mod itself.

Adjusting the response

1. Open your model in the Customizable Player Models editor and find the animation bound to the voice value.

2. Look at how the animation maps input to output. If your jaw reaches fully open at a very low input, it will look permanently open — flatten the curve so the full range of motion only happens near the top of the input range.

3. If the jaw barely moves even when you shout, do the opposite: make the animation reach its maximum at a lower input value.

4. Add a small dead zone at the bottom so background noise, breathing, and keyboard clicks do not jiggle the mouth constantly.

5. Test in a voice channel, speaking at normal volume, whispering, and shouting, and adjust until all three look reasonable.

Other things that affect it

Your operating system's microphone gain and Simple Voice Chat's own input settings both change the volume value the animation receives. If you change your mic or your voice chat input level, expect to re-tune the animation. Push-to-talk also means the animation only fires while the key is held.
