Customizable Player Models Simple Voice Chat Compat Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I get the speaking animation to actually work?
Make sure both Customizable Player Models and Simple Voice Chat are installed and that your model has a mouth part configured as a toggle or animation in the CPM editor. The compat mod only drives the animation — it won't create a mouth for you, so assign the mouth part to respond to the speaking animation in your model's animation settings.
Which part of my model does the mod animate when I talk?
It animates whichever part you've linked to the speaking animation in the Customizable Player Models editor, usually a mouth or jaw part. If nothing is linked, talking won't visibly change your model.
Why is my model's mouth stuck wide open?
Your animation sensitivity or volume threshold is set too low, so even background noise keeps the mouth open. Raise the threshold or reduce sensitivity in the animation settings until the mouth only moves while you're actually speaking.
Does the animation use my actual voice volume?
Yes — the mod reads your Simple Voice Chat audio level and drives the animation strength from it, so louder speech produces a bigger mouth movement. This means whispering barely moves the mouth while shouting opens it wide.
Other players can't see my mouth moving — what's wrong?
They need the same mod setup, and your model must be synced to them through Customizable Player Models. If they see your model but no animation, check that your mouth part is properly linked and that voice chat is transmitting to them.
Can I use voice volume to animate things other than a mouth?
Yes — any part or animation you bind to the speaking animation will react to your voice level, so you can drive ears, tails, or glowing eyes. Just assign that part to the speaking animation in the CPM editor.
Does this mod work in singleplayer?
It only does something when Simple Voice Chat is active, so in singleplayer it has no effect unless you're running a voice chat session. The animation triggers off voice chat audio, not regular game sounds.
Will this mod hurt my FPS or cause lag?
The mod itself is lightweight since it just passes voice volume data to the animation system. Performance impact comes mostly from your model's complexity and how many animated parts you've set up, not from the compat layer.
Do I need to configure anything after installing it?
There's no separate config screen for the compat mod itself — setup happens inside the Customizable Player Models editor where you link parts to the speaking animation. Once your model is set up, it works automatically whenever you talk.
Why does the animation only trigger on some servers?
The server needs Simple Voice Chat running and the mod must be present on the client for the animation to render. On servers without voice chat, there's no audio data to drive the animation, so nothing happens.
