Cursed Villager Whispers Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I start a game for the first time?
Type /botb setup in chat to begin the setup wizard. You'll assign roles to players and configure your script before triggering Dusk to start the first night phase. Make sure all players are present and ready before you begin.
Can I use my own custom roles instead of the default ones?
Yes—open the in-game script builder from the Grimoire to create and assemble custom role lists. The mod supports homebrew roles, Fabled, Loric, Travelers, and exiles alongside standard characters.
What's the difference between night order and day phase?
Night order is when the Storyteller wakes players one by one to resolve their actions in a specific sequence shown on the management screen. Day phase is when all players gather in town square to nominate and vote on who to execute, managed by the Storyteller's timer and voting controls.
How do players see their role and abilities during the game?
Each player has access to a personal client-side reference grimoire by pressing T (or your keybind) to view their role details, abilities, jinx warnings, and the current night order table. This is private to them and doesn't show other players' information.
Do I need voice chat to play this mod?
The mod works best alongside Simple Voice Chat for whispers and isolated house discussions, but it's not required—you can play using text chat or any external voice platform.
What happens if a player disconnects during the game?
The mod doesn't have built-in reconnection handling, so you'll need to pause or restart the game if someone drops. Plan your session with stable players or have a house rule for handling disconnects.
Can spectators watch the game without playing?
Yes—spectators see a heads-up display showing active town status and player icons, but they cannot vote or perform actions. The Storyteller can manage who has spectator access.
How do I see the final results and who won?
At endgame, the mod displays a reveal screen showing the winning team and every player's secret role. This happens automatically when the game concludes.
Can I pause or undo actions during the night phase?
The Storyteller can manage the night phase step-by-step using the night order management screen with reminders and visitor prompts, allowing you to control the pace and review actions before proceeding.
What map setup do I need to play this mod?
You need a village or town map designed for player meetings and individual player houses where people can isolate for whispers. The mod doesn't generate maps for you, so build or load one suited to your player count.
