CTMPOMFIX Chocapic13′ Shaders FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I turn on the shader after installing it?
Open the Options menu, go to Video Settings, then Shaders, and select the CTMPOMFIX Chocapic13′ shader from your shader folder. The shader will activate immediately and you'll see lighting and block depth changes right away.
What's the difference between path tracing on and off?
Path tracing off gives you realistic lighting with bumpy blocks and shadows, while path tracing on makes light bounce naturally around corners, inside caves, and between surfaces for even more realism—but uses more GPU power.
Why do my blocks look flat even with the shader on?
Make sure your resource pack supports PBR materials (normal maps and roughness maps); vanilla textures have limited depth. Check that block depth settings aren't turned all the way down in the shader options, and ensure your GPU drivers are up to date.
How do I see farther into the distance?
Install Distant Horizons alongside this shader—the two work together to render chunks from miles away. You can adjust how far you see in Distant Horizons' own settings without affecting Minecraft's render distance.
My FPS dropped a lot after enabling path tracing—is that normal?
Yes, path tracing is GPU-intensive; it calculates light bouncing for every pixel. Try lowering path tracing samples or quality in the shader settings, or disable it if your GPU can't handle it.
Does this shader work with Optifine or just Iris?
This shader requires Iris (and Sodium) to run; it does not work with Optifine. Make sure you have both mods installed for the shader to load.
Why is the sky too bright or too dark?
Adjust the volumetric fog and sky lighting settings in the shader options menu—these control how much light scatters through the air and how bright the sky appears at different times of day.
Can I use this shader with mods that add new blocks?
Yes, but new blocks will only look detailed if the mod includes PBR textures; otherwise they'll appear flat like vanilla blocks without normal maps. Most popular mods work fine with the shader's default lighting.
What should my render distance be for best performance?
Start with 12-16 chunks and adjust based on your FPS; path tracing and volumetric effects are more demanding than block depth alone, so lower render distance if you're struggling with frame rate.
Why do caves look too dark or too bright with path tracing on?
Path tracing can over-brighten caves if light samples are too high, or leave them too dark if samples are too low; try adjusting the path tracing quality or sample count in shader settings to find a balance that looks right to you.
