Create Geology FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I know which rock type contains which ore?
Each ore spawns exclusively in specific rock types: pyrolusite in deepslate/tuff, galena/cassiterite/wolframite in granite,
magnetite in diorite/andesite,
chromatite in basalt, and fluorite in calcite. Mine the correct rock type for your target ore, or you won't find it.

Yes, you must use Create mod machines like crushers, washers, and heaters to break down raw ore into usable materials. The mod is designed to force you to build multi-step factory chains instead of smelting raw ore directly.
What do I do with waste products like
redmud and waste salts?
You can reuse waste materials in your refining chains—they loop back into chemical reactions in vats—or store them if you don't need them immediately. The mod expects you to handle waste as part of your factory design.
How do chemical vats work?
Vats mix acids, salts, and other chemicals to refine raw materials into metals through chemical reactions. You need to heat them and manage the right ingredient ratios to produce the metals you want.
Can I find ores in the Nether or End?
The mod focuses on realistic earth-based geology in the Overworld; check the mod documentation or your specific version for whether Nether/End ores are included, as this varies by mod version.
Why can't I smelt raw ore in a furnace?
Create Geology removes direct smelting to force you to build proper refining chains using Create machines and chemical vats. Raw ore must be processed through multiple steps to become usable metal.
What are the new metals I can make?
The mod adds titanium, tungsten, chromium, magnesium, and tin as new metal types alongside vanilla metals. Each requires different rock types and refining processes to obtain.
Do I need the safety gear like gas masks and goggles?
Safety gear is optional for gameplay but recommended when working with chemicals and industrial processes; it provides protection and thematic flavor for your factory work.
Will this mod lag my world?
Realistic ore generation and chemical vats can impact performance depending on your hardware and world size. Optimize by limiting the number of active vats and using efficient machine layouts.
Does this mod work with other Create add-ons?
Create Geology is designed to work with Create: The Factory Must Grow and the base Create mod. Compatibility with other add-ons depends on whether they conflict with ore generation or refining mechanics—test in your setup.
