Manage Player Permissions with Permission Plugins
Understand Permission Nodes
Permissions in CraftBukkit are organized as text strings (nodes) that control what players can do. A plugin might use nodes like plugin.command.admin or plugin.build.special. Server owners assign these nodes to players or groups.
Install a Permission Manager
You'll need a dedicated permission plugin (commonly used ones handle groups, ranks, and per-player permissions). Place it in your plugins folder and restart the server. The plugin will generate configuration files.
Create Groups and Assign Permissions
Edit the permission plugin's configuration file to create player groups (like "moderator" or "vip"). Assign permission nodes to each group based on what abilities you want them to have. Common setups include different permission levels for building, commands, and chat features.
Add Players to Groups
Use in-game commands to assign players to groups, or edit the config file directly. Once assigned, players inherit all permissions from their group. Test by having a player try a restricted command—they should only succeed if their group has that permission node.
