Farming Saplings Efficiently with the Craftable Saplings Mod

Set Up a Leaf Farm First

Since the recipe is one stick plus one matching leaf, your bottleneck is leaves, not saplings. Build a small tree farm of the type you want, let the trees grow, and harvest leaves with shears. Shears give you leaf blocks directly instead of the low random drop chance from punching leaves.

The Crafting Loop

1. Harvest a stack of leaf blocks with shears.

2. Grab a stack of sticks (craft from any planks).

3. In a crafting table, combine leaves and sticks one-to-one. Because the recipe is shapeless, you can fill the grid with alternating leaves and sticks to craft several at once.

4. Collect the saplings and either replant them or store them.

Scaling Up

  • Keep a dedicated chest for sticks and another for leaves so you never run out mid-craft.
  • Use a hopper-fed chest system under your tree farm to auto-collect saplings that drop naturally, supplementing your crafted ones.
  • For nether fungi, farm the fungus on its nylium and shear the huge fungus "leaves" (the wart blocks and shroomlight-adjacent blocks) to keep a steady leaf supply.

Practical Tip

Do not shear every leaf — leave some on the tree so it looks natural and so you have a visual reminder of which tree type is which. Label your chests by tree type; mixing oak and birch leaves by accident just gives you the wrong sapling, which is annoying when you are trying to mass-produce a specific wood.
