Control Outline Distance Scaling

Understand Base Distance

The Base Distance setting determines when outline borders begin to shrink as mobs and players move farther away from you. This prevents distant entities from having disproportionately large outlines.

Access the Setting

Open your Contour Shaders customization menu and find the Base Distance slider.

Adjust for Your Playstyle

Increase the Base Distance value to keep outlines sharp and visible at greater ranges. This is useful if you want to spot mobs from far away or prefer consistent outline size across distances. Decrease it if you want outlines to shrink more quickly as distance increases, creating a more natural perspective effect.

Test Different Values

Move toward and away from mobs while adjusting this setting to find your ideal balance. A higher value maintains visibility during combat or exploration, while a lower value creates a more subtle, distance-aware effect.

Apply and Observe

Your changes take effect immediately, allowing you to fine-tune the setting based on your viewing distance preferences.
