Configured Mod FAQ
20 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I open the Configured Mod settings menu?
From the main menu, go to Mods, then click the Settings button. This opens the Configured interface where every supported mod's config is listed.
Can I change configs while I'm already in a world?
No, Configured is accessed from the main menu, so you need to exit to the title screen first. Some options only take effect after a game restart.
Which mods show up in Configured?
Any mod that uses a compatible configuration system is picked up automatically, so you don't need to add support yourself. Mods that don't use a supported config format simply won't appear in the list.
How do I know which mod a config option belongs to?
Each entry in the Configured menu is grouped under its owning mod, so browse or search by mod name. If you only know the option name, look through the mods one by one until you spot it.
What's the difference between the config categories I see?
Mods often split their settings into categories like common, client, or server. Client options only affect your game, while server or common options affect the world and may need to be set on the server side too.
Why did my changes not apply after I edited them?
Most configs are only read when the game or world loads, so restart the game or reload the world. If you're on a server, the server's own config file overrides what you set locally.
How do I reset a config back to its default values?
Open the mod's config in Configured and use the reset option for the individual setting or the whole config. This restores the values the mod shipped with.
Can I edit configs on a multiplayer server with Configured?
You can only change your own client-side settings; server-side configs are controlled by the server owner. Ask them to edit the server's config files or use an in-game command if the mod provides one.
Does Configured work with every mod?
No, it only works with mods that use a compatible configuration system. Mods with custom or hardcoded configs won't appear and must be edited manually.
Will using Configured hurt my performance or cause crashes?
Configured itself is lightweight and only runs when you open the menu. Crashes usually come from invalid values you set, so reset the config to default if a mod misbehaves after editing.
How do I open the Configured Mod menu?
Open the mods list from the main menu, select the mod you want to configure, then click the settings or config button next to it. Configured takes over that button and opens its own editing screen instead of a raw file.
Can I change configs while playing in a world?
Yes, Configured can be opened from the in-game mods menu too, not just the main menu. Some settings only take effect after you reload the world or restart the game, so if a change seems to do nothing, try that first.
Why does a mod not show up in configured?
Configured only works with mods that use a compatible config system, so mods with custom or hardcoded configs simply won't appear. If the mod's config button is missing or greyed out, that mod isn't supported.
Does configured work on NeoForge?
Yes, Configured supports modern loaders including NeoForge as well as older Forge versions. Make sure you downloaded the build made for your specific loader and game version, since they are separate files.
How do I find a specific setting in configured?
Use the search box at the top of the config screen to filter by the setting's name or description. Settings are also grouped into categories, so you can browse by section if you don't know the exact name.
I changed a setting but nothing happened in game
Many config values are only read when the game or world loads, so the change won't apply until you reload. Restart the game or leave and rejoin the world, and if it still doesn't apply, the mod may cache the value elsewhere.
How do I undo a change I made in configured?
Open the setting you edited and use the reset or revert option to restore its default value. If you're unsure what you changed, most config screens let you reset an entire category or the whole config at once.
Does configured change the config file on disk?
Yes, edits made through Configured are written back to the mod's actual config file, so the change persists across restarts. This also means you can still edit the file manually if you prefer, and Configured will read those values.
Will configured slow down my game?
No, Configured only runs when you open a config screen and has no meaningful impact during normal gameplay. It doesn't add world content or tick anything in the background.
Can I use configured to edit server configs?
Configured edits the config files on the side you're running it on, so on a client it changes your local configs. Server-side settings generally need to be changed on the server itself, and some values are synced from the server and can't be overridden by the client.
