Configure Furnace Speed Without Mod Menu

Finding the Config File

If you don't have Mod Menu installed, you can still configure the mod by editing its config file directly.

Navigate to your Minecraft instance folder, then open the config directory. Look for the Configurable Furnace Burn Time configuration file—it's typically a .json or .toml file depending on the mod loader.

Editing the Burn Time Value

Open the config file with any text editor (Notepad, VS Code, etc.). Find the burn time modifier setting and change its value:

  • Use decimals like 0.5 to speed up smelting
  • Use whole numbers or decimals like 2.0 to slow it down
  • Save the file

Applying Changes

Close the text editor and restart your Minecraft game. The new burn time will apply to all furnaces in your world.

If you want to test different values, simply repeat this process—edit, save, and restart. This method works on any mod loader and doesn't require additional mods.
