Edit a Config File While Playing Without Closing Minecraft

Open the File Editor

Press the editor key you bound in Controls → Gameplay. A file menu will appear showing all files in your config folder.

Select and Edit Your File

Click the file you want to change. The text editor opens with color-coded syntax and line numbers. Make your edits directly in the window. The mod supports undo, bracket auto-closing, and typing suggestions if you have those features enabled in editor_config.json.

Save Your Changes

Your changes save automatically or via a save button in the editor. Close the editor window when done—your settings take effect immediately without restarting the game.

Backup Before Major Changes

If you're making significant edits, click the backup button first. This creates a copy of your entire config folder so you can recover old settings if something breaks.

Tip

If you only want to view files without accidentally saving, set readonly_mode to true in editor_config.json.
