Config Editor Render Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I open the config editor in-game?
Go to Options > Controls > Gameplay and set a key binding for the Config Editor (it's blank by default). Once set, press that key while playing to open the file menu and select a config file to edit.
Why are my keybinds not working?
The editor, AI chat, and NBT viewer keys are all unbound by default. Open your Controls menu in game options and assign a key to each feature you want to use in the Gameplay section.
Can I edit files without saving changes?
Yes—set `readonly_mode` to `true` in your editor_config.json file to view and read files without being able to save any edits.
What's the Visual Menu and when should I use it?
The Visual Menu is a point-and-click interface that appears when you open JSON files, letting you change settings without typing code. Use it when you want a simpler way to adjust JSON-based configs instead of editing raw text.
How do I view NBT data for blocks and mobs?
Point your crosshair at a block or mob, then press your NBT viewer key (set in Controls > Gameplay). A window will show the hidden NBT data, and you can save it to a file if needed.
Does the mod work with Ollama for AI help?
Yes—if you have a local Ollama server running, the mod's AI chat window can read your config files and answer questions about your setup. Without Ollama, the AI features won't be available.
What does the backup button do?
Clicking the backup button creates a complete copy of your entire config folder before you make changes, so you can safely restore your old settings if something goes wrong.
How do I turn off the block information box?
Set `show_block_overlay` to `false` in your editor_config.json file to hide the small box that displays the name and picture of blocks you're looking at.
Can I change the editor's colors?
Yes—edit the `theme` setting in editor_config.json and set it to `DARK`, `LIGHT`, or `AUTO` to match your preference.
Does this mod cause lag or performance issues?
The mod actually helps reduce lag by clearing old memory and leftover particles when you join a new world. The editor itself runs smoothly, though you can disable the background render by setting `doRenderBackground` to `false` if needed.
