Compatible Protection Enchantments Data Pack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do I need to do anything special to enable this data pack?
No—once the data pack is loaded into your world, all protection enchantments are automatically compatible. You can start stacking them right away on any armor piece.
Can I put all 4 protection enchantments on one piece of armor?
Yes, you can apply Protection, Blast Protection, Fire Protection, and Projectile Protection to the same armor piece using an anvil or enchanting table, and they will all work together.
How do I combine protection enchantments on armor?
Use an anvil to combine two pieces of armor with different protection enchantments, or use an enchanting table to add new protection enchantments to already-enchanted armor. Each combination costs experience levels.
Do the protection enchantments stack their damage reduction?
Yes—when multiple protection enchantments are on the same piece, they work together to reduce damage from their respective sources (fire, projectiles, explosions, and general damage).
Will this data pack work with other enchantment mods?
This data pack modifies how vanilla protection enchantments interact, so compatibility depends on whether other mods also modify enchantment rules; test in your specific setup to be sure.
Can I stack the same protection enchantment twice on one armor piece?
No—you can only have one level of each protection enchantment type per armor piece, but you can combine all four different types on the same piece.
Does this work on helmets, chestplates, leggings, and boots?
Yes, you can apply multiple protection enchantments to any armor piece in any slot.
What happens if I use an enchanting table instead of an anvil?
An enchanting table will randomly apply protection enchantments to your armor; you may get multiple types on one piece, or you may need to use an anvil to combine specific enchantments you want.
Does this data pack affect enchantment levels or max enchantment level?
No—each protection enchantment still has its normal maximum level; this data pack only allows them to coexist on the same armor piece.
Will my armor break or take extra durability damage from stacking enchantments?
No—stacking protection enchantments does not affect armor durability; durability damage is calculated the same way as vanilla Minecraft.
