How to Use the Zoning Tool to Manage Colony Areas
What the Zoning Tool Is For
The Zoning Tool lets you mark out areas of your colony for specific purposes, helping you organize where storage, work, or restricted zones sit relative to your network-connected blocks. It is a planning and management aid rather than a building tool.
Basic Workflow
1. Craft or obtain the Zoning Tool and hold it in your hand.
2. Select the corners of the area you want to define by clicking the ground at each corner, following the tool's selection feedback.
3. Confirm the selection to register the zone.
4. Repeat for each area you want to designate.
Why Bother
Zones help you keep track of which regions are tied to colony functions and which network blocks serve them. If you have multiple warehouses or satellite storage rooms, zoning makes it clear which Common Network Storage block covers which area. It also helps when you expand, since you can see at a glance where existing zones end before placing new blocks.
Tips
- Zone before you build so you do not have to rearrange later.
- Keep zones aligned with hut boundaries where possible for cleaner management.
- Re-check zones after major colony expansions, since new huts may overlap old markings.
