Understanding Hanging Mechanics

Lanterns and certain decorative blocks can hang in composite spaces, creating suspended lighting without needing separate support blocks.

Placing a Hanging Lantern

1. Hold a lantern in your hand

2. Aim at the bottom surface of an existing block in your composite space

3. Hold Shift and right-click

4. The lantern hangs in that space, suspended below the block above it

Combining with Other Elements

You can place carpets, moss, or other decorations in the same cell as a hanging lantern. This creates compact lighting solutions for detailed builds—perfect for taverns, shops, or underground bases where space is limited.

Removing Hanging Blocks

Aim directly at the lantern itself and mine it. The other blocks in that cell remain undisturbed, so you can swap out lighting without affecting your floor or decoration layers.
