Making Tooltip Text More Readable with Transparency Settings
Understand the alpha channel
The Coloured Tooltips mod uses ARGB hex, where the leading two characters control transparency rather than color. A value starting with FF is fully opaque, and lower values make the tooltip progressively more see-through. Many players find that a slightly transparent tooltip looks better over bright inventory backgrounds, while a fully opaque one is easiest to read in dark scenes.
Pick a value that suits your screen
If tooltips are hard to read against your GUI, raise the alpha toward fully opaque. If they feel too heavy or block the view behind them, lower the alpha a little at a time and reload the game to compare. Keep in mind that the mod changes the color of all tooltips that use Forge's tooltip rendering code, so item tooltips and GUI tooltips such as creative tab names will all shift together.
Test in different contexts
After saving the config and restarting, hover over items in your inventory, open the creative menu, and check tooltips in a few different GUIs. Adjust the alpha and RGB values until the text is legible everywhere. Small, incremental changes are easier to judge than large jumps, and keeping a note of your previous value lets you revert quickly if a setting looks worse than expected.
