How to Colorize Blocks by Right-Clicking with Dye
The Basic Action
With Colorize installed, you no longer need a crafting grid to recolor most vanilla colorable blocks. The core interaction is simple: hold a dye in your main hand, look at the block you want to change, and right-click it.
1. Obtain any dye (the same dyes used in vanilla crafting).
2. Select the dye in your hotbar so it is your held item.
3. Aim your crosshair at the target block.
4. Right-click the block.
The block's color changes to match the dye, and one dye is consumed from your stack (unless you are in Creative mode).
Things to Know Before You Start
- The block must already be a colorable variant. Plain (undyed) wool, terracotta, glass, concrete, and similar blocks work; blocks with no color variants in vanilla will not respond.
- You can recolor an already-dyed block directly. Right-clicking white wool with red dye turns it red without needing to break and replace it.
- Sneaking is not required for the basic action, but be aware that right-clicking some blocks (like beds or shulker boxes) may open their GUI instead of recoloring. If that happens, try sneaking while you right-click, or approach from a different face of the block.
- Dyes are consumed per block, so bring a full stack when recoloring large builds.
This makes recoloring walls, floors, and decorative clusters far faster than the vanilla crafting route.
