Understand Which Pickaxes Are Safe for Coal Mining

Tool Safety Hierarchy

The mod treats different pickaxes differently. Wooden pickaxes and diamond pickaxes are the safest choices for mining coal without triggering explosions. These tools are designed to be compatible with coal ore.

Dangerous Tools

Stone pickaxes, iron pickaxes, and gold pickaxes are configured to trigger explosions by default. The mod's "Sparks" configuration specifically lists which metal tools cause problems—typically iron and gold are included.

Why This Matters

The mod's design reflects a realistic concept: harder metals striking coal can create sparks that ignite the ore. Softer materials and diamond are safer alternatives.

Practical Recommendation

If you're mining coal regularly, dedicate a wooden or diamond pickaxe specifically for coal extraction. Keep your stone and metal pickaxes for other ores where they're more efficient. This simple tool management prevents accidental explosions and keeps your mining operation safe and productive.
