Coal Explosion Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Why did my coal block explode when I was just mining it?
Coal blocks in this mod have a chance to explode when mined, especially if you're using certain tools. The explosion happens regardless of which pickaxe you use currently, though the mod author plans to make wooden and diamond pickaxes safer in future versions.
How do I mine coal without it exploding?
You can reduce the risk by adjusting the mod's config file to lower the explosion strength or range, or by removing dangerous tools from the Sparks list so they won't trigger explosions. You can also disable coal explosions entirely by setting the strength to 0.
What tools make coal explode?
By default, iron and gold pickaxes are listed in the Sparks config setting and will trigger explosions when used on coal. You can edit the config file to add or remove tools from this list.
Can I use a torch near coal without it exploding?
No—placing a torch, lava, or magma block near coal will cause it to explode. If you need light while mining coal, keep these heat sources at a distance or disable the mod's fire-triggering feature by setting causeFire to false in the config.
Does the coal explosion cause fire?
Only if you enable the causeFire setting in the config file (it's disabled by default). When enabled, exploding coal blocks will start fires in the surrounding area.
How do I change how powerful the coal explosions are?
Open the mod's config file and adjust the Strength value (default is 10.0, with a maximum of 256.0). Lower values mean weaker explosions that deal less damage.
Can I make the explosion range bigger or smaller?
Yes—edit the Range setting in the config file (default is 5.0, with a maximum of 256.0). Increasing this value makes explosions affect a larger area.
Do I need this mod on my server for multiplayer?
Yes, the mod must be installed on the server for multiplayer worlds. For singleplayer, you only need it on your client.
Will this mod lag my game?
The mod is lightweight and shouldn't cause performance issues, but frequent coal explosions in heavily mined areas could have a minor impact depending on your explosion settings.
Can I turn off coal explosions completely?
Yes—set the Strength value to 0 in the config file, and coal blocks will no longer explode when mined or triggered by heat sources.
