Mine Coal Safely Without Triggering Explosions

Use the Right Tool

Not all pickaxes are equal when mining coal in this mod. The safest approach is to use a wooden pickaxe or diamond pickaxe, as these tools are less likely to trigger coal explosions compared to stone or metal variants.

Avoid Triggering Items

Certain items will cause coal blocks to explode when nearby:

  • Torches
  • Lava
  • Magma blocks
  • Any pickaxes listed in the mod's "Sparks" configuration (typically iron and gold pickaxes)

Keep these away from coal ore while mining.

Mining Strategy

1. Approach the coal ore with your wooden or diamond pickaxe equipped

2. Clear away any torches or light sources in the immediate area

3. Mine the coal block directly

4. If you're still concerned, increase your distance before mining—explosions have a configurable range

If Explosions Still Occur

If coal continues to explode despite using a safe tool, the server or world owner may have configured the mod with aggressive settings. Check with them about the current explosion strength and range settings.
