How to Zoom and Roll the Camera in CMDCam
Zooming In and Out
The zoom function in CMDCam works like a
camera roll rather than a simple field-of-view slider. Bind the zoom keys in your Controls menu, then hold or tap them while the
camera is active. Zooming changes how tight the shot is without moving the
camera itself, which is useful for framing a distant build or pulling back to reveal a landscape.
Applying Camera Roll
Roll tilts the
camera on its forward axis, giving a Dutch angle effect. This is separate from pitch (looking up and down) and yaw (turning left and right). Use the roll keys to tilt the horizon. A small amount of roll adds drama to a shot; too much makes viewers motion-sick, so keep it subtle for long clips.
Combining Zoom and Roll
You can zoom and roll at the same time for a dynamic push-in with a tilt. If you are recording a keyframe path, set your zoom and roll values before adding each keyframe so the mod interpolates them along with position. This lets a shot start wide and level, then tighten and tilt as it moves — a common cinematic technique. Test playback before committing to a long recording, since adjusting roll mid-path is easier at the keyframe stage than afterward.
