What does Clumps Mod actually do?
It merges XP orbs that are close together into a single orb entity that carries their combined value. This cuts the number of entities the game has to track, so big XP drops cause less lag. It has no items, blocks or recipes to set up.
Do I need to do anything to start using Clumps?
No. Once it's loaded, orbs merge on their own as they spawn near each other. Kill a group of mobs or smelt a stack of items and you'll see fewer, larger orbs instead of a cloud of tiny ones.
Do I lose any XP when orbs get clumped?
No. A merged orb holds the total value of the orbs that went into it, so you get the same XP as vanilla. You just collect it in fewer pickups.
Why do some XP orbs look bigger or a different color or size than normal?
The orb's look in Minecraft depends on how much XP it holds. A clump carries a larger value, so it shows up as a bigger-tier orb. That's normal and means merging is working.
How do I stop XP orbs from swarming me at my mob grinder?
Clumps merges the orbs as they drop and lets you absorb them the moment they touch you. Stand where the drops land, and you'll take the XP right away instead of having orbs float around your face.
Will Clumps reduce lag on my XP farm?
Yes, it helps most where lots of orbs pile up in a small area, such as grinders, big smelting setups or breeding farms. Fewer orb entities means less for the server to update. Other lag sources like mob counts, hoppers and redstone are not affected.
Clumps doesn't seem to be working on my world. What should I check?
Make sure the mod is actually loaded in your mod list and that you're on a world or server that has it. Then test by killing several mobs at once in one spot. If you see single big orbs rather than lots of small ones, it's working. Orbs that spawn far apart won't merge.
Do I need Clumps on the server, the client, or both?
Install it on the server, since that's where orbs are created and merged. If you're on a multiplayer server, the server owner has to add it for it to take effect. Having it only on your own client won't change how the server handles orbs.
Does Clumps work with Mending and other XP mechanics?
Yes. It only changes how orbs are grouped and picked up, so XP still repairs Mending gear and fills your level bar as usual. Merged orbs just hand over their combined value at once.
Is Clumps compatible with other mods, and can I tweak it?
It generally works with other mods that drop vanilla-style XP orbs, since it affects the orb entity itself. If a mod uses its own custom XP system, Clumps may not touch it. If you want to adjust behavior, look for a Clumps config file in your config folder.
