How to start your Cloudburst server for the first time and set it up

Launching

Cloudburst needs Java installed and runs from the console, so keep that window open while the server is up.

1. Put the Cloudburst .jar in its own empty folder. Everything the server generates will be created next to it.

2. Open a terminal in that folder and run:

java -jar Cloudburst.jar

3. On the first launch you may be asked to pick a language and accept a license prompt. Follow the on-screen questions.

4. The server then creates its working files and folders.

What gets created

After the first run, check the folder for:

  • server.properties: the main settings file (server name, port, gamemode, difficulty, max players, and so on).
  • nukkit.yml: further engine and server options. The name is a leftover from Nukkit, which Cloudburst was forked from.
  • plugins/: where plugins go.
  • worlds/: your world data.
  • players/: saved player data.

Stopping safely

Type stop in the server console instead of closing the window. This saves the world and player data properly. To change settings, stop the server, edit the files, and start it again. Edits made while it is running usually will not apply and may be overwritten.
