Cloudburst FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I start my Cloudburst server?
Open a terminal in the folder containing the server file and run `java -jar Cloudburst.jar`. On first launch it walks you through initial setup and generates the config files and world folders, so leave it running until it reports it has started.
Can Java Edition players join a Cloudburst server?
No. Cloudburst is Bedrock server software, so only Bedrock Edition clients (Windows, console, mobile) can connect. Java Edition players would need a separate bridging tool, which Cloudburst doesn't include.
My friends can't connect to my Cloudburst server. What should I check?
Bedrock uses UDP, with 19132 as the default port. Make sure that port is forwarded to your machine on your router and allowed through your firewall. Friends should use your public IP and the port. Players on your own network use your local IP.
The server window closes immediately or says 'Java is not recognized'. What's wrong?
Java isn't installed or isn't on your system path. Install a Java runtime, then run the start command from inside a terminal rather than double-clicking the jar, so the error message stays on screen.
Where do I put plugins and how do I load them?
Drop the plugin's .jar file into the `plugins` folder and restart the server. Check the console during startup to confirm it loaded without errors.
Do Spigot, Bukkit or Paper plugins work on Cloudburst?
No, those are built for Java Edition servers. Cloudburst needs plugins written for its own API, and Nukkit-style plugins are the closest match. Developers can port plugins from other platforms, but you can't drop them in as they are.
How do I make myself operator?
In the server console, type `op YourGamertag` using your exact in-game name. You can remove it later with `deop YourGamertag`.
How do I restrict who can join my server?
Turn on the whitelist in `server.properties`, then add players from the console with `whitelist add PlayerName`. Only listed players will be able to join.
How do I change settings like the server name, gamemode or max players?
Edit `server.properties` in the server folder. Stop the server first and restart it afterwards, because changes made while it runs may not apply or may be overwritten.
How do I stop the server without losing progress, and how can I reduce lag?
Type `stop` in the console so the world saves properly, rather than closing the window. For lag, lower the view distance in `server.properties`, remove plugins you don't need, and give Java enough memory on a machine that isn't overloaded.
