How to make yourself operator and control who can join on Cloudburst

Becoming an operator

Operators can run admin commands in game. The simplest way to grant it is from the server console, which has full permissions:

op YourGamertag

Use your exact in-game name. To remove it, run deop YourGamertag. Once you are an operator you can use commands from the in-game chat with a leading /.

Using the whitelist

A whitelist limits joining to approved players.

1. Run whitelist on in the console, or set the whitelist option in server.properties and restart.

2. Add each friend: whitelist add TheirName.

3. Remove someone: whitelist remove TheirName.

4. Run whitelist list to check who is allowed.

If a friend gets refused when joining, check the spelling of their name and that the whitelist is on.

Other useful controls

  • kick Name removes a player for the current session.
  • ban Name blocks a player from rejoining.
  • gamemode changes a player's mode.
  • In server.properties you can set the default gamemode, difficulty, and maximum player count. Stop the server before editing, then start it again.

Tip: give operator status to as few people as you can, because operators can run powerful commands and affect the whole world.
