Sorting Chests and Containers Without Messing Up Your Inventory
Sort One Side at a Time
When you have a chest open, two slot grids are visible: the container and your own inventory. Client Sort Mod sorts whichever grid your cursor is hovering, which means you can organize a chest while leaving your personal inventory exactly as it is. Hover the chest's slots, press the sort key, and only the chest is rearranged.
To tidy your own inventory instead, move the cursor down onto your player slots and press the key there. This separation is the main reason the mod is useful for base organization — you can clean up storage without disturbing the hotbar layout you rely on.
Building a Sorting Routine
A practical habit is to sort a chest immediately after emptying your pockets into it, so similar items merge into full stacks before you close the container. When pulling materials for a project, sort first, then grab what you need; grouped stacks make it obvious what you already have and what you are short on.
Things to Watch For
Sorting rearranges positions, so if you have deliberately placed items in a specific slot for quick access, expect them to move. Named or specially organized containers may be better left unsorted. Also remember the mod sorts the grid you hover — if you meant to sort the chest but your cursor drifted onto your inventory, you will reorganize the wrong side, so glance at the cursor position before pressing the key.
