How to See Which Note a Note Block Is Set To Using Resource Packs

Why You Cannot Normally See the Pitch

A placed note block looks identical no matter what note it holds. You have to click it and listen. This mod supports resource packs that change the note block's appearance based on its current note, so you can read the pitch at a glance.

Setting It Up

1. Install a resource pack that includes note block note textures. These packs typically provide a separate texture per note, and the mod tells the game which one to draw.

2. Enable the pack in your resource pack list and make sure it sits above any other pack that also touches note block textures, or the note display will be overridden.

3. Place a note block and right-click it to cycle the pitch. The block's texture should change as the note changes.

4. If the texture never changes, the pack you are using does not include the per-note textures, or it is being overridden by a higher pack. Move it up the list.

5. This is purely visual and client-side — other players see whatever their own packs show, so do not rely on it for communicating pitch to others.

Using It While Building

With note textures visible you can scan a finished song and spot wrong notes without playing it. This is especially handy for large redstone music machines where re-listening to the whole track to find one bad note is slow.
