Client Side Noteblocks Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I turn on the mod?
The mod works automatically once installed—there's nothing to enable in-game. Just place and click note blocks as normal, and sounds will play client-side instead of waiting for the server.
Why do my note blocks still sound delayed on a server?
The mod only affects sounds triggered on your own client, so note blocks played by other players or by redstone you don't directly interact with may still come through the server. Make sure the mod is actually loaded on your client, since it does nothing if it's only on the server.
Why do I hear note block sounds twice?
Doubling happens when both the client-side sound and the server-relayed sound play. The mod includes sound filtering to suppress the server duplicate, but if you still hear echoes, check that no other sound-related mod is also intercepting note block events.
Does this mod work in singleplayer?
Yes, it reduces lag and makes playback snappier in singleplayer too, though the effect is most noticeable on multiplayer servers with latency.
Will this mod break redstone contraptions that rely on note blocks?
No, the mod only changes how the sound is played on your client—it doesn't alter note block behavior, redstone signals, or server-side logic. Your contraptions will function exactly the same.
How do I see what note a note block is set to?
Use a resource pack that includes note block note indicators—the mod supports these packs so the current note shows visually on the block. Without such a pack, you'll have to rely on pitch by ear.
Why can't I hear note block sounds at all after installing this mod?
Check that your client actually loaded the mod and that no other mod is conflicting with note block sound handling. Also verify your in-game sound settings haven't muted the relevant category.
Does this mod help with lag from big note block music machines?
Yes, by playing sounds locally instead of waiting on server round-trips, it reduces the stutter and delay that large redstone music builds cause, especially on high-ping connections.
Is this mod compatible with other sound or performance mods?
It generally works alongside performance mods, but sound-overhaul mods that also modify note block audio can conflict and cause doubling or missing sounds. If you notice issues, test with only this mod enabled to isolate the cause.
Do other players need the mod for it to work?
No, it's client-side only—each player who wants instant note block sounds installs it on their own client. Players without it will still hear normal server-relayed sounds.
