How to Mine in the Nether Without Lava Fog Blocking Your View

Why Lava Fog Matters

In vanilla, submerging in lava covers your screen in an opaque orange haze, which makes it nearly impossible to tell which direction is up or where a safe ledge is. This mod strips that haze so lava behaves visually like a clear liquid.

Surviving and Navigating Lava

1. Equip Fire Resistance before entering lava — the mod only changes vision, not damage. Without the potion you will still burn.

2. Once submerged, look around. You should see the lava floor, netherrack walls, and any exposed ancient debris or ore blocks clearly.

3. Use the improved visibility to map lava lakes from below, find the shallow edges, and locate the solid ground you want to swim toward.

4. Pair with a Depth Strider or Soul Speed setup on land so you can exit quickly once you surface.

Practical Uses

  • Netherite mining: scanning the bottom of lava lakes for ancient debris is far more reliable when you can actually see the floor.
  • Fortress and bastion traversal: lava moats no longer hide mobs or gaps.
  • Building: placing blocks inside lava is much easier when you can see the placement grid against the surroundings.

Caution

Clear vision in lava can be disorienting at first because there is no color cue telling you that you are submerged. Watch your breath meter and potion timer.
