Clean Swing Through Grass Mod FAQ

20 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I use this mod? Do I need to press a key?
No keybind is needed. Just swing your sword or tool at a mob standing behind tall grass and the hit lands without the grass breaking.
Why is my grass still breaking when I attack?
Make sure you are actually aiming at the mob, not the grass block itself. If your crosshair is on the plant, the game still treats it as a block hit and may break it.
Does this mod work on servers?
It works on multiplayer servers only if the server also has the mod installed, since the attack behavior is handled server-side. On vanilla servers your client alone cannot change what the server allows.
Will this mod break my other combat mods?
It only changes whether tall grass blocks your attack, so most combat, weapon, and animation mods work fine alongside it. Conflicts are rare and usually only appear with mods that also rewrite block-hit logic.
Does it work with tall flowers, ferns, and other plants, or only tall grass?
It targets the same non-solid plants that normally block your swing, such as tall grass and similar foliage. Solid blocks like logs or stone still stop your attacks as usual.
Can I attack players through grass in PvP?
Yes, the mod applies to players the same way it applies to mobs, so you can land hits on someone hiding in tall grass. Both sides need the mod for it to work reliably in multiplayer.
Does it affect my bow, arrows, or thrown items?
No, it only changes melee swings. Projectiles already pass over or through plants, so nothing changes there.
Will it hurt my FPS or cause lag?
No, the mod is very lightweight and only adjusts attack targeting, so it has no noticeable performance impact. If you see lag, it is coming from another mod or your settings.
Does it stop me from breaking grass on purpose?
No, you can still break tall grass normally by aiming at it and mining it. The mod only skips the grass when your swing is directed at a mob behind it.
Do I need to enable anything in a config file?
Usually no setup is required, the mod works out of the box once installed. If a config exists, it only toggles the feature on or off rather than changing how attacks behave.
How do I use Clean Swing Through Grass?
Just attack normally — the mod works automatically once installed. Swing at a mob, animal, or player standing in tall grass and your hit will land without the grass breaking.
Do I need to press a key or enable anything to attack through grass?
No keybind or toggle is required. The mod changes the default attack behavior, so any normal left-click swing passes through grass.
Does it work on all plants or just tall grass?
It's designed for tall grass and similar obstructing plants like ferns and large flowers. Very solid blocks and full blocks still block your swing as usual.
Why is my sword still breaking grass when I swing?
Make sure you're actually aiming at the mob and not just the grass block itself. If you're looking directly at the grass with no target behind it, the swing may still hit the plant.
Will this mod break my other combat or weapon mods?
It generally plays fine with combat mods since it only changes how grass interacts with attacks. Conflicts are rare, but mods that also rewrite attack targeting may overlap.
Does Clean Swing Through Grass work in multiplayer servers?
It works on servers where the mod is installed or allowed. On vanilla servers without it, the server still decides whether grass breaks, so results may differ.
Can I hit players hiding in grass during PvP with this mod?
Yes, that's one of its main uses. You can land hits on players crouched or standing in tall grass without destroying the grass and revealing your position.
Does it affect mob spawning or make the game easier in jungles?
It doesn't change spawning, but it makes fighting in dense grass much easier since you no longer waste swings clearing plants. Jungles and savannas become far less frustrating.
Will this mod cause lag or performance issues?
No, it's a lightweight change to attack behavior and has negligible performance impact. Any lag you see is almost certainly from other mods or the world itself.
Does attacking through grass still give me drops or XP?
Yes, the mob or player takes damage normally and drops and XP work as usual. The only difference is that the grass block survives the swing.
