How to collect enough gold blocks for an enchanted golden apple
Each enchanted golden apple costs eight blocks of gold, so gold supply is the real bottleneck. Here is how to plan for it.
Turn gold into blocks
- Smelt gold ore, raw gold or nether gold ore into gold ingots in a furnace or blast furnace.
- Craft nine gold ingots into one gold block in the crafting grid. Eight blocks is therefore 72 ingots per apple.
- Gold nuggets can also be crafted into ingots, which helps if you mine a lot of nether gold ore.
Where to find gold
- The Nether: Nether gold ore is common there and drops nuggets. Use a Fortune pickaxe to get more per ore.
- Piglin bartering: Trade gold ingots to piglins for random items, which is useful if you want a gold-focused trip in the Nether.
- Badlands biomes: Gold ore is often exposed on the surface or in cave walls, so you can mine a lot without digging deep.
- Deep caves: Regular gold ore is found in the lower parts of the overworld.
Apples
You only need one apple per craft. Break oak or dark oak leaves, check village and dungeon chests, or trade with villagers if you don't have one yet.
Store your gold as blocks in a chest so you can see at a glance how many apples you can afford.
