How to Run Multiple Chunky Tasks at Once to Use More CPU

Why Run Several Tasks

Chunky can run more than one generation task simultaneously, which puts more of your CPU cores to work. A single task often leaves cores idle, so splitting the area into several tasks can finish the whole job faster on a multi-core machine.

Split the Area

Decide on a set of center points that together cover the region you want. For example, instead of one huge radius around your base, start one task at the base and separate tasks at outposts, villages, or biomes you plan to visit. Each task has its own center and radius, so overlap them slightly to avoid gaps.

Start Them Together

Begin each task with its own center coordinates. Chunky will run them concurrently and report progress for each. Watch the combined chunk rate — if it stops improving when you add another task, you have saturated your CPU and adding more will not help.

Balance Against Playability

Running many tasks at once will make the game or server sluggish while they run. If you are playing at the same time, consider fewer concurrent tasks or pause some. On a server, run the batch during off-hours. When all tasks finish, the covered region is fully generated and travel through it is smooth.
