Chunky Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I start pre-generating chunks with chunky?
Run the chunky command to open its interface, then use the start subcommand with a shape and radius (or a center point) to kick off the task. Nothing generates until you explicitly start it, so the mod sits idle until you issue that command.
What command do I use to pregen chunks around my base?
Stand where you want the center, then run the chunky start command with a radius and shape so the area is centered on you. You can also specify explicit coordinates instead of relying on your current position.
How do I pick the radius and shape for a chunky task?
Use the shape option to choose between a square and a circle, and the radius option to set how far out from the center it generates. A circle covers less area for the same radius but avoids generating corners you may never visit.
Can I run more than one chunky task at the same time?
Yes, you can start multiple tasks and they run concurrently, which spreads the work across more of your CPU. Running several at once speeds up total throughput but each individual task finishes slower than if it ran alone.
How do I pause and resume a chunky task?
Use the pause subcommand to stop a running task, which saves its progress so you can continue later. Resume it with the continue subcommand and it picks up from where it left off instead of restarting.
How do I cancel a chunky task without keeping progress?
Use the cancel subcommand to stop the task and discard its progress entirely. If you might want the work later, pause instead, since canceling throws away everything already generated.
Why is chunky so slow or using so much cpu?
Chunk generation is heavy by nature, and the mod deliberately pushes your CPU hard to finish the job faster. If the machine becomes unresponsive, pause the task or run fewer concurrent tasks so other work can share the CPU.
Does chunky work on a server and will players lag while it runs?
Yes, it runs on servers, and because it uses CPU that the server also needs, players may see lag or higher tick times while a task is active. Many admins run tasks during low-population hours or pause them when players are online.
Do I need to keep the game open while chunky runs?
Yes, the task runs inside the game or server process, so closing it stops generation. If you need to stop, pause the task first so its progress is saved and you can continue later.
How do I check the progress of a chunky task?
The mod displays chunks processed, percent complete, ETA and the current chunk rate while a task runs. You can also query the running tasks with the chunky command to see their status.
