Chunk Pregenerator Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I start pregenerating my world?
Run /pregen and use the autocompletion to build a generation task. Pick a shape and a center such as spawn, then set the size. Confirm the task, and if the mod says it is queued rather than running, start it with the start subcommand. Every parameter has tab completion, so you can step through it without memorizing syntax.
What does pregenerating actually do for me?
It creates the chunks ahead of time, including terrain, ores and trees. Later, when players explore or fly through the area, the game only loads chunks and doesn't have to generate them. That removes most exploration lag and TPS drops.
How big should my pregeneration radius be?
Start with the area players will actually use, such as spawn and the first few thousand blocks around it, then extend later. Larger areas take much longer and use a lot of disk space. Check the unit in the command's autocompletion or feedback before entering a number, so you don't confuse chunks with blocks.
How do I pause or stop a pregen task?
Use the pause subcommand to halt it and resume to continue where it left off. Use cancel to drop the task entirely. Chunks already generated stay in the world either way.
Why is my server lagging while pregenerating?
Generating chunks is heavy work, so it competes with normal ticking. Run pregeneration while few or no players are online. Keep the task to a modest size, and pause it if the game stutters. The mod also has a time-limit style setting you can check in the autocompletion to restrict how much work it does per tick.
Can I use it in singleplayer?
Yes. It works in singleplayer worlds with the same /pregen commands, as long as cheats or operator permissions are enabled so you can run them. Leave the world open while it works, because the task only runs while the world is loaded.
How do I pregenerate the Nether, the End or a modded dimension?
Pick the dimension when building the task. The dimension parameter autocompletes with the dimensions loaded in your game, including modded ones. Each dimension is generated separately, so repeat the command for each one you want.
Does pregenerating overwrite or damage chunks I've already built in?
No. Chunks that already exist are loaded, not regenerated, so your builds are safe. Existing chunks are simply skipped or passed through, and only missing ones are created.
Does the pregeneration stop if I restart the server or close the game?
A running task does not keep going while the world is shut down. After a restart, check whether the mod still has your task and start or resume it, or create a new one. Because finished chunks are saved, a new task over the same area won't redo work that is already done.
Why is it better than other pregeneration methods or command blocks?
Other methods are often slow, leak memory, or break with certain mods, and the command-block approach in particular often fails with modded worlds. This mod is built to generate chunks efficiently and works with modded terrain. It also has full command autocompletion, which makes mistakes less likely.
