Keeping a Mob Farm or Spawner Active with Chunk Loaders
Why Loaders Matter for Mob Farms
Mob farms and spawners only produce when their chunk is loaded. Without a chunk loader, walking away shuts the farm down entirely — no spawns, no drops. A loader keeps the chunk ticking so mobs continue to spawn and fall into your collection system while you are elsewhere.
Setting It Up
1. Identify the exact chunk your spawner or spawning platform sits in. If the farm spans multiple chunks, note all of them.
2. Place a chunk loader in each critical chunk, or use a higher tier that covers the whole area.
3. Make sure the collection and killing mechanism (water streams, fall damage, etc.) is inside the loaded area too — a loaded spawner with an unloaded drop chute produces nothing useful.
4. Return after several minutes and check whether items accumulated.
Tips
- Keep the loader close to the spawner so you can see both at once.
- If spawns are slow, the issue is usually light level or spawn-proofing, not the loader.
- On servers, confirm chunk loading is permitted; some servers restrict it to prevent lag.
- For very large farms, use one loader per chunk rather than stretching a single loader across an irregular shape.
