How to Fix Common Chisel Problems (Wrong Variant, Missing Blocks)

Wrong Variant Applied

If you chisel a block into a variant you did not want, simply chisel it again. The chisel cycles through available variants for that base block. If you are using the Chisel Table, put the wrong variant back in the input and select the correct one. Most variants are reversible, but some cracked or chaotic versions may not convert back to the original — keep a stack of the base block as a backup.

Missing Variants in the GUI

If a variant you expect does not appear, check that you are using the correct base block. Andesite variants only appear for andesite, not for stone or diorite. Also ensure your mod version is complete; some variants may be added in later updates.

Chisel Not Working

  • Make sure you are holding the chisel in your main hand.
  • Right-click the block, not left-click.
  • If the block is already the last variant in the cycle, it may appear unchanged. Cycle again.
  • In multiplayer, server-side mods must match client-side mods for the GUI to function.

Recovering Lost Blocks

If you accidentally convert a block and cannot revert it, break it and place a fresh base block. Chisel variants drop themselves when mined, so you can always retrieve the variant and store it for later use.
