How to get iron nuggets for the cheaper compass recipe

The new compass recipe needs three iron nuggets. You can get them in a few ways.

Make nuggets from an ingot

1. Open your inventory's 2x2 grid or a crafting table.

2. Place one iron ingot anywhere in the grid.

3. Take the nuggets from the result slot. In vanilla, one ingot gives nine nuggets.

That means one ingot makes enough nuggets for several compasses. You still need a separate ingot for each compass.

Other sources of nuggets

• Nuggets can drop from some loot found in the world, such as chests.
• Smelting certain iron tools or armor in a furnace or blast furnace returns nuggets in vanilla. Use this for spare iron gear you don't need.

Quick plan for several compasses

• Each compass needs 1 ingot and 3 nuggets.
• Split one ingot into nuggets and you have enough nuggets for three compasses, with some left over.
• Keep the spare nuggets in a chest so the next compass is easy to craft.

Don't turn nuggets back into ingots unless you need to. Nine nuggets are needed to make one ingot again.
