How much iron you save with the cheaper compass recipe
This guide helps you budget iron when you want more than one compass, for example for several bases or for exploring.
The comparison
- Vanilla: four iron ingots per compass.
- With this mod: one iron ingot plus three iron nuggets per compass.
In vanilla, one ingot converts into nine nuggets, and nine nuggets make one ingot. So three nuggets are one third of an ingot, and each compass costs about one and a third ingots of iron. That is much less than four.
Planning your iron
1. Count your ingots. Each compass needs at least one whole ingot.
2. Decide how many compasses you want.
3. Turn some of your ingots into nuggets. One ingot gives nine nuggets, which covers three compasses' worth of nuggets.
4. Craft the compasses.
Example
If you want three compasses, you need three ingots for the main slots. You also need nine nuggets, which means splitting one more ingot. That is four ingots in total for three compasses, where vanilla would use twelve.
The savings add up if you like keeping a compass in every chest or on every ender chest trip.
