How to Set Up Customizable Chat Notifications
What Notifications Do
Customizable notifications alert you to chat activity so you don't miss messages while focused elsewhere. You can tailor which events trigger an alert and how it presents, rather than relying on a single default ping.
Configuring Them
Open the mod config and find the notification options. Enable notifications, then adjust the conditions that should fire them — for example, messages that match a pattern you care about. Because the mod uses regular expression patterns matched via the find() method in MULTILINE mode, you can define patterns that catch specific words, names, or phrases in chat. All color codes are removed from player messages before matching, so your pattern only needs to account for plain text.
Verifying Your Setup
Turn on advanced tooltips with F3 + H, then hover over each notification config item. The tooltip shows the config key, its default value, and a description, so you can confirm you're editing the right entry and understand what each toggle does.
Tips
- Test with a friend or an alt sending a matching message to confirm the alert fires.
- Keep patterns specific to avoid notification spam.
- Remember the session identifier (save name or server address) so you know which context your notification settings apply to.
- Slight behavior differences may appear across Minecraft versions due to macro replacement.
