How to Navigate Back Through Chat History
Why Chat Navigation Matters
On active servers, important messages scroll out of view fast. Chat navigation lets you move back through previous messages instead of losing them. This is one of the mod's core tools alongside timestamps and translation.
Steps to Navigate
1. Open chat as usual.
2. Use the navigation controls (arrow keys or the mod's assigned keys) to step backward and forward through the message history.
3. Read older lines at your own pace; the view holds position while you scroll.
4. Return to the latest message when you're done so new chat isn't missed.
How Messages Are Handled
All color codes are stripped from player messages during processing, so the history you scroll through shows plain text bodies. The mod uses regular expression patterns to detect and handle message content — these patterns are matched with the find() method in MULTILINE mode, which is why multi-line or repeated content is handled consistently.
Tips
- Combine navigation with timestamps so you know when each recalled message was sent.
- Enable advanced tooltips (F3 + H) and hover config entries to confirm which keys drive navigation and what their defaults are.
- The session identifier (save name in single-player, server address in multiplayer) helps you keep track of which conversation you're reviewing.
