How to Beat Reflective and Thorns Champions Safely

Why They Hurt You Back

Reflective Champions bounce a portion of the damage you deal straight back at you. Melee builds suffer most because every swing returns chip damage. The same problem applies to any Champion with a thorns-like affix. If you keep swinging with a high-damage sword, you can kill yourself faster than the mob.

Safe Damage Options

Switch to ranged or indirect damage. Bows, crossbows, and thrown potions don't trigger the reflect in most setups because the Champion isn't directly retaliating against a melee hit. Tipped arrows with Harming or Poison apply damage over time without a reflect trigger. If you must melee, use a low-damage fast weapon so the reflected amount stays small, and keep a regeneration source running. Splash Healing on an undead Champion is another workaround.

Positioning and Support

Fight from range and use terrain — pillars, fences, or water — to break line of sight when the Champion closes in. Bring golden apples or a totem if you're unsure. If a Reflective Champion also has Lively (regeneration), you need burst damage from range to outpace the heal, so stack Power enchants on your bow rather than relying on melee trades.
